Who We Are

After more than 50 years of service, The Starr Group has grown into one of Milwaukee’s largest independent insurance agencies. Servicing Southeastern WI, The Starr Group is unique in their approach to client services because of the high education requirements for their sales and service personnel. The goal is to not only provide insurance to clients but also to become an adviser who reviews clients' needs and analyzes their total cost of risk. Having a staff that is highly educated in the industry promotes higher quality advice and insurance products for clients.

Extreme Perks

At The Starr Group, employees are eligible for health and welfare insurance benefits after the first of the month following 60 days.

The Starr Group pays 75% of premiums for individual health insurance plans for eligible employees.

The Starr Group offers part-time or flex-time employees full time health care benefits to employees that work less that 30 hours per week.

The Starr Group's 401(k) program is available to employees after one year of employment and the company provides an average of a 3% contribution to all participants

Flextime

The following scheduling options are available to salaried employees:

  • Choose the beginning and end hours (8am-5pm or 7am-4pm) on a case-by-case basis
  • Allow salaried employees to work a part-time schedule on a case-by-case basis
  • Choose the number of hours in a day (Five 8-hour days or Four 10-hour days) on a case-by-case basis
  • Work a reduced schedule during a certain time of the year
  • Job share (two part-time employees share one full-time position) on a case-by-case basis
  • Change from full-time to part-time while remaining in the same position or level on a case-by-case basis
  • Work from home occasionally on a case-by-case basis
  • Resources are provide to remote employees
  • Work from an alternative location to accommodate a family need

The following scheduling options are available to hourly employees:

  • Choose the beginning and end hours (8am-5pm or 7am-4pm)
  • Choose the number of hours in a day (Five 8-hour days or Four 10-hour days)

On average, hourly employees know their regular work schedule 4+ weeks in advance.

The following technologies are offered to employees to facilitate flexibility in the workplace:

The Starr Group provides 8 hours paid per year for employees to volunteer.

The Starr Group offers the following paid time-off (PTO) options for employees:

  • Use of sick time for personal time or ill dependents
  • Carry over unused sick/personal/vacation time to future years(s)
  • Take an extended career break for care giving or other family responsibilities on a case-by-case basis
  • Unused vacation time can be carried over to future year(s)
  • Bereavement time off for the passing of their family or partner

Career Development

The Starr Group’s budget and financial statements include a line item for employee training and development and the training program is aligned with company goals.  It supports all employee groups.

Training is focused on employees becoming expert advisers for our customers. Goal is for each producer to be certified (CIC and CRM) within 5 years of employment.

At The Starr Group, managers’ performance is appraised based on their ability to develop their employees.

Each year, The Starr Group plans for 20+ training hours for each employee.
