Extreme Perks

Continental offers a benefits package and a set of workplace perks that they believe are second to none. These benefits include the following:

Health and Wellness Benefits:

As a company, Continental pays approximately 75% of each employee’s health and dental premiums.

  • Continental offers two health plans that meet the Affordable Care Act’s definition of “affordable” (i.e., single coverage costs no more than 9.56% of an employee’s income) and are classified as “Platinum” and “Gold” (cover 90% and 80%, respectively, of the average employee’s annual medical expenses).
  • Company paid life insurance as well as short and long-term disability coverage.
  • Pre-tax flexible spending program for medical and dependent care.
  • Same-sex medical coverage.
  • Discounted YMCA membership for home office employees.
  • Subsidized fitness club memberships for all employees – up to 50% or $400 annually.
  • Other benefits include dental and vision insurance as well as the opportunity to purchase additional life insurance.

 Paid Time Off:

  • Employees with fewer than five years of service accrue 120 hours of PTO.
  • Employees with five to ten years of service accrue 160 hours of PTO.
  • Employees with more than ten years of service accrue 200 hours of PTO.
  • Nine paid holidays – New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve.
  • Additionally, Continental offers “Summer Fridays” to home office employees during the last four Fridays in August. Employees can treat noon as if it’s 5:00PM and take the afternoon off with pay.
  • Employees at the Springs apartment communities receive four half days to use during the summer months in lieu of “Summer Fridays”.

 Financial Benefits:

  • 401(k) plan with a wide selection of mutual funds, including low-fee index funds.
  • Employer paid 401(k) match – 100% of the first 1% contributed, 50% of the next 4% for a total of 3% salary match.
  • Employee rent discounts at the Springs apartment communities.
  • Employees are periodically (and at time of hire) provided with “Continental Cash” for use at the company store.
  • Bonus program for home office employees (Building Above and Beyond) – Incentive program based on the attainment of measurable performance goals set annually.
  • Residential Property Managers at lease-up communities are eligible for Property Manager Occupancy Gain incentive program.
  • Springs property staff eligible for New Resident Lease Commission, Resident Lease Renewal, and Controllable Net Operating Income Incentive programs.
  • SHARE (Share in the Healthy Appreciation of Real Estate) Program – Annual grant of ownership in one or more developments given to certain home office positions.

 Workplace Benefits:

  • Company-paid cell phones and tablets furnished to certain home office positions.
  • Weekly quick pulse sent to employees to understand their needs and recognize areas for improvement for Company.
  • Employer provided free soda, water, juice, and popcorn.

    • Continental Springs communities in San Antonio provided free housing to wounded active service members while they undergo long-term medical treatment.





Continental offers more than the traditional 9 to 5 work arrangement and provides flexibility to employees. Benefits include:

  • Non-traditional working arrangements such as:
    • Part-time
    • Paid internships
  • Flexible work schedules at each manager’s discretion –
    • Many positions have the ability to set their own start and stop times outside of the standard office hours.
  • Employees also have flexibility in selecting lunch and have control over the amount of overtime they work.
  • Employees also have resources available to facilitate remote work and work from home
    • e.g., laptops, remote connectivity, cell phones, video conferencing.
  • PTO (rather than strict “vacation” and “sick” time) made available to each employee as follows :
    • Employees with fewer than five years of service accrue 120 hours of PTO.
    • Employees with five to ten years of service accrue 160 hours of PTO.
    • Employees with more than ten years of service accrue 200 hours of PTO.
    • Up to 40 hours of unused PTO may be carried over from one year to the next.
  • Employees are offered bereavement leave for the passing of family members.

  • Quarterly Performance Snapshot check-in’s with managers and their employees at the home office to provide continuous, on-going coaching/development conversations with employees vs. one conversation per year (annual review).
