 Hiring for Culture Fit: What to Ask and What to Look For

When most people think of the term “company culture,” they think of free happy hours, games in the office, bean bag chairs, etc. The list goes on and on. The truth is, a strong company culture is much more than that.culturalfit

If you want to build a successful company, you’re going to need to hire people that have the same goals and desire to work there.

  2. “Describe your average Sunday”
  3. “How would your co-works describe your work style?”
  4. “If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want to have?”
  5. What is the worst company culture environment you’ve worked in? How did you cope with it?

Companies with a great culture have a happy and appealing environment that harbors good relationships and productive employees. Every business has a different type of culture. Some people will fit better with other companies than they do in others. Think about the type of organization you want to build. Before you begin the hiring process, you need a firm understanding of what your particular business culture really is.

Once you have this established, make sure you update your career page, explain what it means to you and what it is to your candidates. Then, ask “What part of our culture interests you the most?” and you can base your decisions off of their answers.

Like I said, hiring for culture fit is an essential part of running a successful company. You want your employees to be as passionate as you are and desire coming into work every day. Ask culture-based interview questions and look for answers that scream [insert your company’s name] – you’ll be smooth sailing towards a one-of-a-kind business before you know it.
